Several events have been organized over the past few years with the main objective of fundraising money to help different projects in Latin America and Canada. In addition to the main objective, our goal has also been to promote some local young artists by providing a platform in which they can showcase their art.
This is the 4th year in which we have organized this type of event. All along, there have been two objectives in mind:
1.- To raise funds to benefit Child Play International – This year, we raised a record-breaking $5,952 (NET) which has been increased to an even $6,000. This money will be judiciously utilized by CPI.
a. $600 will be donated by CPI to ‘First Nations Child & Family Caring Society of Canada’
b. The pilot project to bring music into the ‘Escuela Activa’ in the outskirts of Lima, Peru will be expanded to include morning classes as part of the regular school’s curriculum for every student in the school. See below a couple of recent videos of the program running in the expansion of the school built with funds from previous concerts.
c. The remaining amount will be utilized by CPI to cover the operating expenses at the ‘Escuela Activa’ and ‘RECARE’ Playgroup.
2.- To provide a platform for young local artists and allow more people to enjoy the music of Duo Waqay – 69 guests attended the concert on Friday and 70 guests attended the concert on Saturday and got a little taste of Gabi’s and Alejandro’s passion for music and amazing performance. We are so happy to be contributing in a small manner to their musical adventure and to see them taking off. Keep an eye on them, they are bound for great things! Their NAC show on May 29th is nearly sold out.
I think we succeeded in both of these objectives and at the same time had a great time with friends and family, our third secret objective.
